Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is an experiential learning program that teaches the knowledge, skills, and reflective practices necessary for effective spiritual care. Working under the supervision of a Certified Educator, students engage in educational seminars and provide spiritual care to patients. Students explore their clinical work with their Certified Educator and training cohort, building tools for the practice of outcome-oriented chaplaincy.
The certificate in Clinical Pastoral Education comprises four courses (CPE 100-400) or 1600 hours. Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is about change, transition, and transformation and involves group and individual supervision as part of an action-reflection-action learning process. Each course requires completing 400 hours (100 hours) of structured and unstructured learning and (300 hours) of an internship. Students will receive a certificate of completion for each course and a certificate of achievement for four courses or 1600 hours.
Students are offered CPE Courses through distance education. There are three main elements: small group interaction with one’s peers and supervisor-educator, online learning modules and an internship.
Providence CPE is affiliated with CPE international. CPEI offers Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) certification, which is designed to develop competent pastoral clinicians and supervisory educators through online, hybrid, and in-person learning modalities. CPEI is accredited by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC) and recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), ensuring that its programs meet rigorous educational standards.
Our goals are to establish partnerships with leading educational institutions in which we are currently affiliated with CPEI. Partnerships will allow us to offer our students unique opportunities such as study abroad CPE programs, and internships. We are proud to be part of CPEI network of educators and learners who share our commitment to quality education.
